Tutorial Favicon

It is possible to associate a website with an icon. You have probably seen this when visiting for instance Google, Yahoo, or Senselogic. This icon has the specific name "favicon.ico" and is fetched automatically by browser for display in the address window:

The Favicon is also shown among the favorites/bookmarks, see example below:

It is very simple to associate a website with a favicon in SiteVision. First you need an ico file with the name "favicon.ico". You can use an image editor for this.

Observe that the resolution of the ico-file must be 16 X 16 pixels in order to work in Internet Explorer. The higher resolution icons will work with other web browsers.

When you have an ico-file you associate it with the website in Sitevision through the steps below:

1. Upload the file to the file archive.

Observere the the image should be public in order for all to see it.

2. Create an alias to the ico-file.

Observe the naming the file is very important ("favicon.ico")

Done! You might have to restart your browser or you computer before you can see the result.

3. Expose the icon via HEAD elements

Modern browsers like Firefox also look for favicon.ico for the website in the beginning of the HTML code the so called HEAD.

You can also register your favicon there. You do this by choosing properties for the website, category General and the tab Additional HEAD elements.

Add favicon as a head-element
As type you state "image/x-icon" and as Rel you state du "shortcut icon". When you gice the source you can either type "/favicon.ico" as the address or you browse to the ico file.
OBSERVE! It must be an .ico-file. You can not rename a .jpg or .png to .ico.
