Search engine configuration

Beneath the tab Search engine configuration you can activate spelling suggestion and sitemaps, information which form the base for a Sitemap file.

Spelling suggestion

Here you can activate spelling suggestion who gives suggestion as "Did you mean" when using the search portlet. When checking the box the function is activated the following day.

A tip! If you would like to activate the function at once, go to the schedule manager on the server object and run the job. This scheduled job is found beneath the group Default events -> Search index optimize and spell index creation.

Sitemaps

What is sitemaps?

The three search engines Google, Msn, and Yahoo! uses a common standard for sitemaps (an xml-file). In a sitemap you can give the information to the search engines spiders about what is new on the website and what you would like to be indexed first. You can for instance prioritize pages, and how often the change, frequency. You can set this for every page on the website through the tab General -> Search indexing.

In order to add a sitemap file the administrator need an account per website with the search engines (Google, Msn, or Yahoo!).

Activate sitemaps

Check the box in order to activate sitemaps. The function will be activated the following day.

Click the plus sign to add a sitemap file. An XML file will be created on the server containing all the links and files on the website and the information stated on the tab Search indexing.

The search engines will fetch this file.

Description

Add a name for the sitemap.

Ping url

Fill in the address to the page. Exchange <server> for the address.

Ping interval

How often updates should be fetched from the page. the available options are Disabled, At change (use with caution), At most once per minute, At most once per hour, At most once daily.

If you use for instance SiteSeeker you might want to use At change (use with caution) so that the search engine will receive the new information at once.
