Metadata (Site)

With metadata Site you can add metadata definitions that should be available to pages based on certain templates or on files/images/portlets/layouts for the page.

If you would like to use a metadata definition called "Top news" for the e.g. five news archives you have on a web site you normally add the definition on each of the five different news archives. If you instead add the definition for the news page template the metadata definition is there for each and every page created out of the news template.

Metadata (Site) is commonly used if a metadata definition needs to be mandatory for a certain template. You add the definitions for metadata (site) the same way you add ordinary metadata:

Permission requirement! Only users with the right to Manage metadata definitions can add, remove or edit existing metadata definitions.

You need to switch to template mode, choose desired template and select Properties. Beneath the tab Metadata field, you can choose to either apply the metadata definition on pages, files, and/or layouts.

In order to activate the metadata definition on pages, click the plus sign to the right of Metadata fields applied on pages based on this template.

A new window will open Select definition. Select the definition you would like to apply to the template.

Now you have activated the metadata definition for the current template. Regardless of the number of news archives created the metadata definition "Top news" will be available if selecting the News template.

If you would like to apply metadata on for instance files you click the name/arrow n next to Metadata fields applied to files stored on the page. Then you click the plus sign to select desired metadata definition.

Apply metadata fields on portlets/layouts on page


In order to also apply a metadata field to e.g. portlets on a page, click the name/arrow to expand the field. Then click the plus sign to select which metadata definition to activate.
