The Search portlet is used for creating a search function on the website. It is possible to search content and metadata on pages, files and images. It is also possible to search the content on web pages and HTML-, text-, XML-, Word-, Excel-, StarOffice- and OpenOffice-files. On all files, pages and images it is possible to search for name, date and optional metadata (depending on how they are set up).The search engine is updated continuously, almost as soon as a page is published it is possible to search for it. The search engine handles:
- truncated search(e.g. "car*)
- categorized search
- the ranking of search results
The search result is presented beneath the search field unless another page is selected. For each search result you find the title, summary, last updated, size and where it is located.
The search result is listed on their hit points unless having set up another order.
The hit points are calculated by evaluating the search question in relation to the found documents. It takes into consideration:
- how many times the search word can be found in the document
- How high on the page the search word is located
- if the search word is a great part of the document (the result will get a higher hit point if the document is a short document than a long one).
