In order to achieve good printing jobs (not to include headers and menus), you should create one or more print templates.

The print templates should only print the contents of the webpages, not what is in the template. Therefore, you must add all the content areas used on the website in the print template.

First create a print template that contains the content areas that are used in the templates. If, for example, you have the following templates:

  • Default template, the content area is called Centre column
  • Default template with right column, the content areas are called Centre column and Right column
  • News, the content area is called Centre column
  • Wide template, the content area is called Centre column.

You can then create a standard print template that contains a content area named Centre column and a print template for two columns that contain two content areas: Centre column and Right column.

This entire section assumes that the content areas are named Centre column and Right column. If your templates have content areas with different names, these are the names you should use.

Create a print template

1. Create a new template that is based on a blank page and a blank template.

2. Add a text module with a header with the company name. Optionally add a line below the text module.

3. Add a rows layout where you can set the width so that it fits on an A4 page, approx. 600 px. Right-click on the layout and select Properties. Under Size, fill in a width of 600px. Remember to also set gaps, e.g. 10px, so that there is some distance between them.

5. Convert the layout to a content area named Centre column.

6. Done!

Set this print template as the standard template for printing

1. Select Website settings.

2. Select Website settings -> Templates -> Print. Here you set the print template to be the default template, that is, the print template that will be used on all templates that have not specifically selected a print template.

If you use special templates that contain many content areas in a column, you must add ALL the content areas that are used in the templates. Then simply add a new layout under the second layout. Here you can set the width and spacing and convert it to the content areas found in the other templates.

If you have content areas in multiple columns, create an additional print template for that/those template(s).

Create print template for two columns

1. Create a new template that is based on a blank page and a blank template.

2. Add a text module with a header with the company name. Optionally add a line below the text module.

3. Add a columns layout where you can set the page width so that it fits on an A4 page, approx. 600 px. Right-click on the layout and select Properties. Under Settings, fill in a width of 600px.

4. Select the columns layout and add a rows layout. Rename the layout to Centre. Right-click on the layout Centre and select Properties. Under Settings, fill in a width of 420px. Remember to also set gaps, e.g. 10px, so that there is some distance between them. Also, set a distance to the right of 10 or 20px, so that the two columns get a little space between them.

5. Select the columns layout and add a rows layout. Rename the layout to Right. Right-click on the layout Right and select Properties. Under Settings, fill in a width of 180px. Remember to also set gaps, e.g. 10px, so that there is some distance between them.

6. Convert the layout Centre to a content area named Centre column.

7. Convert the layout Right to a content area named Right column.

8. Done!

Set the print template as default for a specific template

2. Select Properties and the Page template tab. Here you can set to use a specific print template.
