Statistics

Recipients

Here you specify the recipients of the report. Specify a valid e-mail address.

Interval

Here you select the interval on the report. The options in the list are:

  • Every day
  • Weekly
  • Monthly

Another important thing to emphasise for *scheduled search statistics* is that the report always includes the next full complete "interval". This means, for example, that if the website is in Swedish and the current date is Wednesday the 7/9-16 week 36 then a weekly statistics generation that starts this day will contain the result for week 35 - i.e. the next week in which all week days have already occurred.

Search queries are case sensitive

Tick this box if differences between uppercase and lowercase letters are to be made in the result.

Include report for search pattern after search

Results of the statistical report

If you generated a scheduled report, you will get two files:

  • statistics.xls
  • tracking.xls

In the example above, a visitor with sessionsid 4 has first made a search on SAML. The visitor did not think that they got any good hits and searched on SAML2. Then the visitor re-searched on "SAML2". Then the visitor clicked on one of the search results "Login methods". Based on this click, five more clicks were made on related pages. Then another visitor with sessionsid 7 searched on Sandberg. The visitor clicked on the "Contact us" page.

TrackingZoom image

In the example above, our visitors have searched for the search term "java" 47 times.
21 of these clicked on the search hit "Check Java plugin".
5 of these clicked on the search hit "Java 7 Update 51". etc.

Tracking.xls

The file tracking.xls shows what a visitor (sessionsid) searched for and if they click more after their search.

Filen statistics.xls

Statistics.xls

The statistics.xls file displays search terms, number of searches, number of clicks, hits, and address of the hit.

Questions and answers on statistical report

How should the report be interpreted? Here are answers to some common questions.

There is a row with no search terms but a clicked search result?

The existence of multiple rows of the same colour after a search term means that visitors have clicked on these different pages after completing the search.

Enter search terms (the search box text) produces no results at all?

When it comes to "Enter search terms", it is likely that robots are posting forms directly "as it looks" to see if it leads anywhere. If a hit is obtained, it depends on whether there is a document on the web that meets the search expression.

Why do I to get a hit on a number of digits e.g. 34566?

There may be an image or file on the website called 34566.jpg, hence the search result.

What does ACCESS mean – no search term has been used but there is a page view?

Someone has searched for "empty string" by calling the search engine’s endpoint directly. Perhaps we should start filtering out these as they are not relevant to include in the report.

QUERY – no hits at all despite knowing that the page has "Server settings"?

This info is taken from the detailed specification of what each visitor who has searched for something has done on the website afterwards. In this case, someone has searched for "Server settings" but then did not click on any of the hits.

And CLICK – no search query but a click hit?

When parts of the information fall outside the scope of the report, it may appear that you get non-complete sessions in the report.
