MCP server
An MCP server is a server that implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open protocol designed to enable AI models (such as ChatGPT or other LLMs) to interact with external tools, data, and systems in a standardized way.
For example, an MCP server can provide the AI with access to:
- Files
- Databases
- APIs
- GitHub repositories
- Slack/Teams
- Internal systems
- Search functions
Here's how to add an MCP server in Sitevision
To add an MCP server, go to the " Add-ons " view on your website.

In the Extensions view, click Import in the sidebar to import your MCP server. The file must be packaged as a .zip file.

A window with information about your MCP server will appear during import. This information is retrieved from the MCP server’s manifest file. Here, you can also enter the name you want to give the MCP server. It’s important to note that this name will become part of the MCP server’s URL.

Once the MCP server has been added, it will appear under the Versions heading. You can have multiple versions of your MCP server, but only one can be active at a time. You can also see if the MCP server is signed by Sitevision if there is a checkmark in the Signed column.
This feature requires that you have the "Manage Add-ons" permission.
