Quick guide Promote your own news with RSS

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary and is a standard format for transferring news headlines on the web. SiteVision can display its own news using RSS.

Find the web page that has the news module you want to display using RSS.

Here's how you do it

1. Double-click on the news module.

2. Select the Content tab. Here you can see how the news is displayed on the existing web page.

Innehåll nyheter

3. All values that you choose to display in the news module (in this case Publication date, Article headline, Article introduction, and Link to article) have a setting called RSS. You can access this setting by double-clicking on the various fields. There you will find settings for RSS. Make sure that the option Include content via RSS export is checked for each value.

The system fills in the correct RSS tag name, so you don't need to fill it in yourself unless you have changed it.

If this has been removed for some reason, it should say:

  • Publication date - pubDate
  • Article heading - title
  • Article introduction - description
  • Link to article - link

4. Select the RSS tab . Check the box Enable access to articles with RSS from this module:

Fill in all the details:

  • Title: If you have several news modules that you display, you must be able to distinguish them by name.
  • Description: Enter a short description.
  • Copyright: Who owns the copyright to the news.
  • RSS link: The address of the RSS link. Copy the address and click OK.

If you do not fill in all these fields, the RSS feed will not validate.

5. Create a web page where the RSS link is displayed so that visitors can copy it and then use it in their browsers and on their websites. One tip is to create an alias for the long address generated in the news module, as the RSS link is long.

An example of an RSS link created with an alias is www.mywebpage.com/rss, where /rss is an alias for www.mywebpage.com/4.259787ft9879sd54354/12.13876jghghyfdredrgr44portlet?state=rss&en.contenttype=text/xml;charset=UTF-8

8. Click OK. That's it! Now the recipient can post news from company X as an RSS feed.

If the news items are not displayed, try pasting the address of the RSS file into a web browser. This should open an XML file where you can read the news items in text format. If an XML file does not open, something has gone wrong with the setup.
