Group settings
The Group Settings module is used on group pages. It allows you to change the type of group, determine whether the group is active or not, delete the group or change the settings (name and description) of the group.
Group type
Group administrators can change the group type.
- Open group - any user can join the group which is visible to all visitors to the website. Group members can post, comment and work on files. Visitors can only comment on posts.
- Moderated group - only group administrators can add group members. However, this is also an open group - if you are not in the group, you can still follow the group and access all the material with the only difference that you cannot comment and discuss. As a follower, you will also receive notifications and you can view documents in moderated groups.
- Closed group - only group administrators can add group members. Information in the group is only visible to group members.
The permission settings on a group page apply before the group type. A group page belonging to a closed group that is set as public can be viewed by all visitors. Individual users who are added and assigned to a role on the page will see the content without being a member of the group.
Group status
Group administrators can change the status of the group.
- Active group - the group is active and open for posts, comments, etc.
- Inactive group - the group is locked for changes and no one can add new posts, comments or similar.
If you have chosen to deactivate the group, the button looks slightly different with fewer choices:
Delete group
It is possible to delete a group as group administrator by selecting this option. The group will then end up in the trash.
To delete a group, the Group Administrators role needs to have the "Delete" right.

- Name - the name of the group, which is displayed on the group page and in search results.
- Description - the description of the group, which is displayed on the group page and in some search results.

Show assistive
If you want to show the caption for the button, check this box. The default text is"Manage group".
